When it comes to getting better at poker and strategies of poker, you will never get any better by practicing in a play money game. There are some good features of playing in a play money game, but none that will help improve your game.

Why Play in a Play Money Game?

If you have never played poker a day in your life, then playing in a play money game is a great start. It is a great place to learn the rules of the game and the structures of a game. You do not want to play poker for the first time in a real money game, because you will just be giving away money. Until you understand the structures and the basic rules of the poker game, you are not going to be ready to focus on strategies to take it to the next level. If you are a beginner then play money games are perfect for you.

Another very good reason to take place in a play money game is to get used to a specific poker room and its software. Even if you have played online poker for 10 years and you are a pro. It is really just foolish to not try out a poker room and get used to it before you deposit money and start playing for real. All you will need to do is download the software, and you are in business. If you like the software and you are used to it; then move onto the real money games. There are far too many players on different sites claiming to hate the software, but they are just playing there because they deposited money into the site and what ever other excuse they have. There is just simply no reason not to try it out before you play.

Why Play Money Games will not make you Better?

There are not any serious good players playing at the play money games. If you have ever played in a play money game before then you know first hand, that they are a joke. Everyone goes all in with any hand before the flop every other time if not more. It is not a real situation, and they are not good players. Without real situations and good competition, you will never be able to improve your strategy and poker skills. A real money game is completely different then a play money game. You just will not face the same situations in a play money game. Even if you did, it would not matter to you because you have nothing to lose or gain.

The only way to truly get better at poker is to play real games in real situations as much as possible. The more hours that you play the better you will get. Poker takes a lot of experience to get great at the game, but experience at a play money game is just that; experience at a play money game. It really is a totally different game; play money games are just not the same.
